About Sequim Education Foundation

The Sequim Education Foundation (SEF) is classified by the IRS as a non-profit1 public charity2.  It was established to benefit students, teachers, and schools located in the Sequim School District.

The future is in the hands of our children.

Sequim Education Foundation was founded by Lee Lawrence, Jim Pickett and Jeanne Martin.  It was incorporated in the State of Washington on May 4th, 2001 by Jeanne Martin, Jim Pickett, Walt Schubert and attorney Alan Millet.  They now serve the Foundation as Honorary Members of the Board of Directors.

Alan Millet is currently legal counsel for SEF; and Jeanne Martin is CPA.

Inspiring Students to Achieve Excellence

As a non-profit education foundation, SEF is approved to: 1) Receive donations, gifts, bequests, and devises; 2) Manage and administer resources; and 3) Distribute funds, scholarships, and grants in support of Sequim's school children.

The Sequim Education Foundation has a volunteer, nine-member board of directors elected from the community.  In addition, a member of the School Board, the Superintendent of Schools, and two student representatives sit on the SEF board.

Because of very minimal operating expenses, more of every dollar donated is used to help students, teachers, and schools in Sequim.

SEF grant and scholarship programs are announced each school year.  Students, teachers, and/or schools may apply and compete for these awards.  Specially constituted committees chaired by individual directors of Sequim Education Foundation, and staffed by members of the Sequim community review applications and recommend awards to the SEF board. Every effort is made to benefit the most deserving students with funds available.
